Hydrotherapy (Water-Based Rehab)
We harness the therapeutic power of water through hydrotherapy sessions
Hydrotherapy involves exercising in a warm-water pool, which can be fantastic for those with joint pain, muscle stiffness, or anyone who needs low-impact exercise. The buoyancy of water supports your body weight, reducing stress on joints, while the gentle resistance of water helps build strength and flexibility.
How it works
Active Flow Rehab has over a decade of experience in aquatic therapy.
We can work one-on-one with you in a local community pool or hydrotherapy pool. During a hydro session, our Exercise Physiologist will be in the water with you, guiding movements such as walking exercises, arm and leg movements, balance practice, and stretching – all tailored to your abilities. Many clients find they can move more freely and with less pain in water, which makes it a great environment to kick-start mobility gains.
Hydrotherapy is ideal for conditions like arthritis, chronic pain, or significant weakness, and it’s also helpful for relaxation and reducing muscle spasticity in neurological conditions. We ensure safety at all times, closely supervising and often using flotation devices if needed. You don’t even have to know how to swim – most exercises are done standing in chest-deep warm water. We currently run Aqua Rehab group classes weekly (see Join a Class), and also offer individual hydrotherapy for more personalised attention. If you love the water or struggle with land-based exercise, hydrotherapy might be your perfect solution. Just bring a towel – we’ll handle the rest!
